As a graduate student the majority of my internet use is centered around research as well as email correspondence. I use various internet venues when conducting research ranging from google searches to various academic databases. I check my email at least twice a day. Within the last year I finally gave into the "facebook monster" therefore I visit their web page occasionally. Though I do not shop online regularly I have made some purchases such as textbooks and occasionally gifts. Finally since I have moved to Boston my girlfriend and I have found it more convenient to order our groceries via peapod.com, as we do not have a vehicle and walking seems like quite a daunting task.
I would consider my father's internet use to be quite minimal in comparison to my own. This is most likely due to the fact that my generation has grown up with the internet, and is in many instances more comfortable using it. My father is a high school teacher and football coach. His internet use consists mainly of email correspondence with other teachers, administrators, and coaches. Occasionally when making a significant purchase he may utilize the internet for consumer research. Any other browsing he may do deals mainly with football be it local high schools or a web site such as espn.com. My father is certainly aware of the internet and able to use it, however in many cases where it may be a first option for me he will often consider another avenue.
